Introducing Matt and Maria

This summer, we’re excited to introduce two important members of our Holy Hog Team: Matthew Strickland and Maria Muñoz.

Native Floridian, Matthew Strickland, is a passionate business operator currently executing the Holy Hog Barbecue concept in the Tampa Market. Since his first job in a Miami Sub shop at just 14, Matt has been perfecting the ins and outs of running a business. He graduated Cum Laude from the University of Florida in 2008 and has since gained much experience in operations and development. His success with major businesses is clear from his past work with Miller’s AleHouse and World of Beer. He looks forward to growing with Holy Hog Barbecue as they spread HOG culture throughout the Tampa Bay area.

HH Matt

Maria Muñoz currently serves as our Catering Director. She has spent her whole life surrounded by food—from her grandmother’s kitchen all the way to Holy Hog BBQ. After two decades in Miami, Maria has recently returned to Tampa, and we’re grateful to have her on our team. When she’s not cooking or catering, she loves spending time with her daughter Genevie and son Gabriel. Maria is excited to continue serving and growing Hog Nation!

Holy Hog BBQ Honors Alex Cooks’ Life

The Tampa Bay BBQ Community lost a great man of God this week. Alex Cooks was a beloved Pitmaster at his local restaurant, Alex’s Southern Style BBQ.  But more importantly, we want to honor Alex’s incredible generosity and involvement in our community. May we always remember his heart for serving others. Our team’s hearts go out to Alex’s family, and we wish them all the peace in the world.

Partnering with the (RED) Campaign

The Story

(RED) is an organization dedicated to fighting for an AIDS Free Generation. Over 650 babies are born with HIV every day. Fortunately, new medicines have the ability to prevent HIV transmission in 95% of HIV+ pregnant women.  And so this month, we’re excited to announce our partnership with the nationwide (RED) Campaign! Together, we want to raise money and save lives.

Why This is Important

Connie, who is HIV+, lost three children to AIDS. She then began taking Antiretroviral medicine (ARVs) and became pregnant with her fourth child. Because of this treatment, an HIV+ mother can give birth to an HIV-free child. Thanks to ARVs, Connie’s daughter Lubona was born HIV-free.

Connie’s story underlines the life-saving power of ARVs, which cost as little as 40 cents a day.

Today, her baby, Lubona, is healthy, happy, and thriving.

So how can YOU get involved?

Well every time you purchase our new Smokey Chipotle Peach BBQ Sauce, you’ll be contributing to the fight against HIV.  So come see us this June and join us in the fight to deliver an AIDS FREE GENERATION.
